AI in the BRICS countries
BRICS is an interstate association of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. On January 1, 2024, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia joined BRICS.
In 2024, Russia took up the baton of chairmanship of BRICS. The main event - the summit of heads of state - will take place on October 22-24 in Kazan.
The Russian presidency of BRICS in 2024 will be held under the motto «Strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security».

BRICS has the potential to become a platform for deepening scientific and technological cooperation in the field of AI between countries with different levels of development. It is important to recognize that AI regulation must be fair and inclusive, ensuring global security and development
Taking these factors into account, the BRICS countries agreed to establish an AI Study Group in 2023.
AI Ethics in BRICS
The 14th BRICS Summit in 2022 resulted in the Beijing Declaration, which expressed concern about the risks and ethical dilemmas associated with AI. The declaration calls on BRICS countries to work together to address these concerns, share best practices, conduct comparative studies on this issue to develop a common governance approach that will guide BRICS countries on the ethical and responsible use of AI, promoting the development of AI technologies.
Following the conference "Journey into the World of Artificial Intelligence", held on November 24, 2023, an instruction from the President of the Russian Federation was issued to include issues related to the formation of ethical standards in the field of AI in the agenda of BRICS meetings.
